It's an annoying enough problem getting kernels caught between your teeth while eating corn on the cob without also having to worry about lingering silk strands. Random wisps of the white thread often cling to corn kernels after the husk has been peeled off. While you probably could invest in an expensive kitchen gadget to remove the silk, the easiest answer to your corn-cob-eating dilemma lies in your kitchen. And, best of all, it’s free.
Pull the bright green husks off of the corn cob and discard or save them for wrapping around food before steaming.
Use your hand to grasp and pull off as much of the silk as possible.
Hold the corn cob under running water.
Rub the sides of the cob in a circular motion with a vegetable scrub brush or a dampened paper towel to remove silk remnants.
Cook the cobs whole immediately or cut the kernels off for cooking at once.
