Making your own lotion saves money and is a particularly easy task to accomplish. Homemade lotion can be for personal use or given as a gift. Making your own moisturizing lotion will satisfy your dry skin and make your skin look healthier.

Items you will need

  • 2 Pans
  • 1/8 tsp Borax
  • 1/4 c. Distilled water
  • Whisk
  • 1/2 c. Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbs grated beeswax
  • 1 tsp scented essential oil
  • 1/8 tsp lecithin
  • 1/2 c. Aloe Vera Gel
  • Funnel
  • Rubber spatula
  • Empty bottle
Step 1

Combine the water and borax into a small pan. Place pan on stove and bring to almost boiling.

Step 2

Mix the coconut oil and beeswax in a separate pan, and place on medium heat until the wax has melted. Beeswax is extremely moisturizing and has been used for centuries in lotions.

Step 3

Whisk the water, borax, oil and beeswax together, being sure to slowly add in the water and borax. Mix this mixture until well combined.

Step 4

Stir in the lecithin and scented essential oil of your choice. Add the scent slowly and adjust to your likings. The scent can be anything you would like.

Step 5

Cool the mixture until it is room temperature.

Step 6

Add the aloe vera gel to the mixture, and whisk until blended.

Step 7

Whisk the mixture until all the ingredients are well combined.

Step 8

Add the mixture into a clean empty bottle using a funnel and rubber spatula. Remember to label the bottle accordingly, and store at room temperature.

  • Using an old lotion bottle is a great way to recycle. If giving the lotion as a gift, add a colored scent to give the lotion some color. A hand blender can be used as an alternative to the whisk.
