If your husband has asked for a divorce and you're not ready to make that decision, you're probably feeling confused, nervous and out of control. Take a few steps to get the necessary things in order and lighten your burden.
Consult a few local lawyers who have experience in family law. Don't consult your husband's lawyer or a lawyer that he suggests. Your lawyer will prevent common mistakes and defend you if the divorce gets messy.
Make an appointment to talk to a therapist or counselor. This should not be your marriage counselor or your husband's counselor.
Keep track of any and all documents that you'll be using during your divorce. Even if you're turning certain documents in, make copies of them for your personal records first.
Don't neglect your own health. This will just make coping that much more difficult. Try to get as much sleep, exercise and nutritious food as possible.
