Rich in minerals that help eliminate toxins from the skin, sea salt is a desirable ingredient in homemade beauty treatments. It's a bit coarse, so it’s ideal for scrubbing away flaky, dry skin from the body. Once the flakiness is gone, moisture is more easily absorbed into the skin. A homemade sea salt body scrub is abrasive enough to effectively exfoliate the skin but gentle enough to use on a regular basis.
Pour ½ cup of sea salt into a container with a lid. Add ¼ cup of olive or canola oil.
Pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 10 drops of your favorite essential oil into the container. Choose any essential oil or oil blends that you like, such as lavender, vanilla, chamomile, peppermint or rosemary. Mix the ingredients thoroughly with a spoon.
Wet your body with water. Scoop some of the mixture from the container with your fingers or a washcloth. Scrub it over your body using a washcloth or loofah using smooth, circular motions. Apply pressure while scrubbing, but not so much that you’ll irritate your skin.
Let the scrub sit on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing it off thoroughly with warm water. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel and apply moisturizer.
Use the sea salt body scrub as often as needed to exfoliate dry, flaky skin. If you notice your skin becoming red or irritated, stop using the scrub or cut back on the frequency of use.
