If you are prone to breakouts on your face, you have an increased chance of developing pimples in other areas, including your back. The breakouts may be worse on your back since the pores are larger and can lead to more painful acne cysts. If you are unable to clear up back acne on your own at home, speak to a dermatologist about more aggressive treatments such as laser therapy, chemical peels or prescription strength acne medications.
Wear lightweight clothing. The best way to get rid of back acne is to prevent the pores on the back from being clogged due to tight clothing. Choose cotton shirts to avoid acne breakouts. Keep your hair pulled up and away from your back as well to ventilate the area.
Shower after sweating. Plan to shower immediately after working out or while outside on a hot day. The oil from your sweat can clog the pores and worsen the back acne.
Prepare the skin for treatment using an exfoliating sponge. Slough off dead skin cells to prep the skin for the over-the-counter topical treatment. Use a sponge with a long handled attachment to help you reach the back area.
Choose a body acne topical treatment solution. Opt for an acne fighting cleanser that contains at least 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. These can easily be found at your local drugstore.
Apply the body cleanser to the back. Leave the solution on for 2 minutes and then rinse with cool water. Towel dry the body before getting dressed since benzoyl peroxide can occasionally stain clothing.
Keep using the acne-fighting body cleanser until the blemishes disappear. If you experience dryness or irritation, use the acne treatment every other day to see if this resolves the issue.
