There is no guaranteed way to prevent breakouts of pimples on your chin or anywhere else. However, learning to care for this acne-prone area can reduce the frequency of breakouts, as well as their duration and severity. This usually can be accomplished without any expensive products. If you experience more than occasional pimples, see a dermatologist for advice and possibly a prescription to help control your facial acne.
Wash your face twice -- and only twice -- every day, in the morning and at night. Make an exception only after perspiring or getting dirty. Massage a gentle, alcohol-free soap into your chin with your fingers, rather than scrubbing it, using lukewarm water to wet and rinse your skin. Pat the skin dry with a clean towel.
Shampoo your hair nightly and use a product designed for oily hair and scalp, if necessary, because you can unknowingly spread this oil onto your face and chin. If you have long hair, hold it back with a hair clip, tie or other accessory to keep it off your chin during the day. This is particularly important if you use gels, sprays or other hair products. Avoid spraying your chin when applying these.
Purchase moisturizers, makeup and other skin products you apply to your chin that are labeled non-acnegenic or non-comedogenic. Use powdered makeup rather than creams or oil-based products that easily clog pores. Remove the makeup from your chin and face completely before bed.
Apply a facial acne cleansing product made with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as recommended on the package or by your dermatologist.
Refrain from touching your chin so you don't spread dirt and oil there. Never pop any pimples that do appear there, because this can worsen an acne condition, cause an infection and even leave a scar.
