Wrinkles occur in the skin during the natural aging process. While you won't naturally fend off wrinkles forever, the way you care for your skin and body can help you delay facial wrinkles. Healthier, smooth skin helps you look younger and feel better about your appearance without the need for plastic surgery or similar procedures.
Change Your Diet

The foods and beverages you consume affect more than your weight. The appearance of your skin is also affected by your diet. Drink water regularly to hydrate your skin from the inside. Focus on a healthy, balanced diet to nourish your skin with the necessary nutrients to stay younger looking and avoid wrinkles. Including vitamin C, antioxidants and protein in your diet may also help. Try yellow and orange fruits and vegetables, blueberries, leafy green vegetables, nuts, beans and fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids for healthier skin.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun

The UV rays from sunshine damage the skin by affecting the collagen and elastin, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. The breakdown of these components causes premature wrinkles and aging in the skin. Avoid long periods of time in direct sunlight, especially during midday when the rays are the strongest. Cover your skin when possible. Apply sunscreen to any exposed skin before heading outdoors. Sunscreens contain a variety of chemicals, some of which aren't natural. Avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone, instead choosing products that use minerals such as zinc or titanium as the active ingredient. Indoor tanning beds present the same risks for skin wrinkles and premature skin aging.
Smoking and Squinting
Smoking potentially contributes to early wrinkle development in the facial area. The chemicals present in cigarettes and cigarette smoke may accelerate the aging process, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. People who smoke frequently expose their skin to these chemicals repeatedly in addition to the internal damage the chemicals do to the body. Your facial movements while smoking also contribute to wrinkles. Your mouth movements may add to wrinkles near your lips. Squinting while smoking increases wrinkles around the eyes. Stop smoking and avoid secondhand smoke when possible to reduce your risk of wrinkles.

A regular, gentle skincare routine keeps your skin looking healthier and may reduce wrinkles. The skin on the face is sensitive, especially around the eyes where it is thinner than other areas. Instead of scrubbing your face or rubbing in products roughly, use a gentle dabbing action so you don't damage the skin. Use mild cleansers and moisturizers. Apply moisturizer daily to avoid drying out the skin and contributing to wrinkles.
