Properly moisturizing your skin can turn it from lizard-like leather into luscious lambskin in no time flat. Unfortunately, the cost of keeping your dermis hydrated can leave your wallet significantly lighter. If you’re tired of the high cost of quality moisturizer, it’s time to head to the kitchen. With some basic kitchen supplies and a few base ingredients, you can create your own moisturizing cream that is just as effective as pricy store-bought bottles can be.
Cut off 2 tablespoons of beeswax, and then chop it up into smaller pieces. The sizes of the pieces doesn't matter. Chopping the wax helps it melt faster.
Place the chopped beeswax into a microwave-safe bowl and add 3/4 cup of any all-natural oil, such as jojoba or grape seed.
Heat the bowl on high for 15 seconds in the microwave. Stir the solution and heat for an additional 15 seconds if it is not completely liquefied. Do not overheat.
Drop eight to 10 drops of any essential oil that you like into the mixture, and stir well. Some good oils to try are lavender, orange or lemon.
Let the bowl sit undisturbed until it reaches room temperature. If the mixture is too hot, it will liquefy instead of thickening like a lotion.
Sterilize a blender pitcher, blender lid, blender blade, a spatula and a jar by placing them into a dishwasher along with a scoop of dishwasher detergent. Start the dishwasher and wait until it turns off. Remove the items, using care not to touch the inside or rims, as this would contaminate them.
Pour the mixture into a blender and add 1 cup distilled water. If desired, you can substitute a scented water of your choice for the distilled water.
Turn the blender on low and watch the mixture closely until it thickens to the consistency that you want.
Locate a jar that is big enough to hold at least 2 cups of lotion. You can purchase a new jar or use one that you already have at home. If using an existing jar, sanitize it by placing it in the dishwasher or boiling it in water for five to 10 minutes.
Scoop the mixture out of the blender and into the sterilized jar using a sterilized spatula.
This moisturizer is appropriate for all areas of the body, including the face.
Discard any remaining lotion after six months.
Store the lotion in a cool location out of direct sunlight.
You can create any scent that you like by mixing and matching the essential oils and scented water.
Do not use tap water, which contains chemicals and microbes.
