Are There Natural Ways to Reduce Unwanted Hair Growth in Women?

by Andrea Cespedes ; Updated July 18, 2017

Unwanted hair in women occurs as a result of hormones and genetics. If you want to avoid lasers and chemical depilatories, then waxing, shaving, threading and sugaring are natural ways to remove excess hair on your arms, legs or face. These natural methods remove the hair, but they usually don't slow or reduce growth. Plucking hairs may lead to a lack of regrowth, particularly in the eyebrows.

Waxing Possibility

In some people, consistent waxing can lead to sparser and thinner hair regrowth. Waxing isn't always a natural alternative, though. Spas may use synthetic products, so check with your provider and look for ingredients such as beeswax or lanolin.

Permanent Hair Removal

Electrolysis and laser treatments are the only permanent methods of hair removal. Laser treatments must be done in a medical setting. Electrolysis can be painful as it involves using an electric shock to destroy the hair follicle. These methods are not natural ways to reduce hair growth.

Check With Your Doctor

Unwanted hair growth can be a result of certain medical conditions, so if it isn't normal for you, check with your physician. In certain cases, prescriptions, topical treatments and hormone treatments may be recommended for reduction of hair growth in unwanted areas.
