Soothing bath salts scented with aromatic peppermint oil offer relief from the stresses of the day, help ease muscle and joint pain, and leave your skin feeling refreshed. A homemade batch of peppermint bath salts makes for a quick and thoughtful gift any time of the year -- or even a nice treat for yourself.
Measure 1 cup of Epsom salt and 1/4 cup of sea salt and put each into separate mixing bowls.
Add two or three drops of peppermint oil to each bowl of salts. Mix both of them well.
Use about 3 drops of red food coloring to make one bowl of salts colored. Mix thoroughly until the red coloring is distributed evenly throughout the salt.
Place a funnel into the glass jar or bottle and pour in about 1/4 cup of white salts. If you have a larger container, you may wish to add more to get a layer of the desired thickness.
Tilt the jar to give the bottom layer a slight angle. Add a 1/4 cup of red salts evenly layered on top of the white. Use care so you don’t mix the colors.
Continue layering the salts in this way until the jar is filled. Tap the jar on a counter gently so the contents will settle. Then add enough salts so the jar is filled completely to the top. By making sure the jar is completely full, you prevent movement of the salts, which could cause the layers to mix together before use. Secure the lid tightly.
Use a clear olive oil or vinegar bottle that has been cleaned to package your peppermint bath salts.
If you have a larger jar or bottle, you may need to double the recipe.
