Whether you are looking for a quick meal for the family tonight, a healthy appetizer for the party or a simple snack, lettuce wraps can be an easy option to prepare. Mix and match ingredients to make delicious and nutritious lettuce wraps that fit your style and that will help you achieve your health goals.

Rip Proof Lettuce

No lettuce wrap can be made without that nice "cup" shaped lettuce to hold savory filling. For the best results pick either iceberg or Bibb lettuce. Prep the lettuce by removing the core. You can do this either with a small knife or by hitting the core on a cutting board a few times to loosen the core enough to pull it out. Next, cut off the bottom of the lettuce head, or the area from which you just removed the core, run cold water over the head of lettuce for about one minute and return it to cutting board. Running it under cold water helps keep the lettuce together when you begin to split apart each piece. After lettuce is separated, you'll have achieved the most important step -- creating perfect lettuce cups for your wraps.

Making A Healthy, Filling Dinner

Choose your fillings after the lettuce is prepped and ready. If you are looking for a healthy, filling dinner, choose a protein such as ground turkey. Selecting ground turkey over ground beef cuts down on saturated fat, which is bad for your heart health, while still providing essential protein for bone, muscle and skin health. Top off the lean protein with some vegetables, to make the meal rich with vitamin C, vitamin A and dietary fiber.

Party Food

Making lettuce wraps as appetizers can be a huge hit at a party. For party snacks, tear the lettuce into small pieces. Start with a creamy spread on the lettuce such as slightly pureed avocado, light mayonnaise or mustard. Add cheese, deli meat and a slice of tomato. If you want to cut back on calories, go for part-skim cheese or eliminate the cheese altogether. Secure the wrap with a colored toothpick for easy eating. Alternatively, put all of the fillings in separate bowls and allow guests to create their own wraps.

Simple, Satisfying Snack

Snacking throughout the day can help with weight control and weight loss. It allows you to manage your blood sugar levels, which helps you avoid reaching the point where you feel you could eat everything in sight. It also allows you to fight fatigue and maintain your energy levels throughout the day. Make lettuce wraps into a satisfying snack with sliced strawberries, slivered almonds and a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. Pairing fruit with a protein helps slow down digestion, curbing hunger a little longer.
