How to Prevent Wrinkles in Your 20s

During your twenties, skin is usually at the epitome of health. Much of the oiliness from adolescence is gone, but skin still produces enough collagen to combat wrinkles. To keep it that way, you can perform several preventative methods. Fighting wrinkles in your twenties helps to ensure healthy skin as you continue to age.

Wear sunscreen at all times while outside, even if it is cloudy, and never use tanning beds. Avoid this exposure to ultraviolet rays to prevent the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin, which expedites the appearance of wrinkles.

Wear a hat, sunglasses and protective clothing while outside, even when wearing sunscreen. Seek shade whenever possible.

Do not smoke, as toxins in cigarette smoke break down the skin. Stay away from smoky areas, as squinting to prevent smoke in your eyes can cause crow's feet.

Avoid alcohol, which dehydrates the skin, making wrinkles appear more prominent.

Drink lots of water to keep skin moist from the inside and cleanse out toxins in the body that may lead to skin breakdown.

Eat a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables. Include protein in your diet to replenish the store in your body, because skin is made of protein. Eat foods high in essential fatty acids, beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E, all of which have beneficial properties for the skin.

Repair your skin by washing it gently with lukewarm water every night. Follow this with a night moisturizer that contains retinol, which speeds the production of collagen.

Moisturize every morning with a product containing alpha hydroxy acids and antioxidants, which plump the skin and fill in small lines on the face.
