Sometimes, pimples stubbornly linger in the form of dark-hued or reddish marks, which occur as a result of temporary inflammation. Deep pock marks and severe permanent scars require heavy-duty treatment methods, such as dermal fillers, injections or laser treatments. For surface-level marks, turn to affordable and all-natural home remedies to speed along the healing process of surface-level marks.
As a foundation of your home healing, cut open a ripe papaya, deseed it and mash its flesh into a pulp. Apply the pulp to your freshly washed face, covering just the areas with acne marks. Allow the papaya to rest for 15 minutes, then rinse your face clean with warm water and pat it dry with a clean towel. According to skin care therapist Katrina Fadda, the fruit's papain enzyme encourages cell turnover, helping fade acne marks more quickly. If you don't have papaya handy, use pineapple or kiwi.

After a papaya application, combine 1 teaspoon of lemon juice with 2 teaspoons of vitamin E oil and gently massage the mixture into the skin affected by acne marks. Massage for about 30 seconds to stimulate the skin and help break down scar tissue. After the massage, apply your usual facial moisturizer. Fadda reports that the lemon juice acts as a skin lightener and collagen-builder, while the vitamin E soothes redness.
Massage diluted licorice extract onto the acne marks daily, just before going to bed. Use a 2 percent concentration of this natural essential oil by mixing about 12 drops of extract with an ounce of water. The University of Maryland's Medical Center notes that a 2 percent concentration of licorice extract helps soothe redness on the skin. Speaking to the Huffington Post, dermatologist Jennifer MacGregor also recommends licorice for dark-hued acne marks. For particularly stubborn marks, perform 30-second massages of the affected areas with pure vitamin E oil a few times throughout the day to expedite the fading process.
Pimples and Prevention
While home remedies help ease marks, prevention serves as the most effective control method. Avoid picking, rubbing, poking, squeezing or otherwise touching pimples, as these actions heighten inflammation and skin damage. Add vitamin C supplements to your diet to bolster your body's production of collagen, which helps prevent acne marks from occurring and speeds along the fading process if they do appear. Throughout the healing process, always apply sunscreen before stepping outside. Sun exposure bolsters pigment production, which makes acne marks more prominent and works against the effects of your home remedies.
