Unique Places for Teen Birthday Parties in Indianapolis

by David B. Ryan, studioD

Indianapolis, the Hoosier State capital city, has the typical places to celebrate teen birthdays, but the Circle City also features a number of locations that offer unique party venues. These venues have space for several close friends of the birthday teen or a large group of celebrants, and most of the locations take reservations regardless of the date for the celebration. Some party locations, however, feature activities best enjoyed during certain seasons due to the central Indiana weather conditions.

Art Fun

Creative teen parties at the Indianapolis Art Center give guests a chance to party while creating individual pieces of art under the expert direction of the center staff. Art Center artists offers instruction in ceramics, glass making, photography, painting or woodworking during the party. The staff member can also give lessons in jewelry making or creating art using mixed media or digital technology. Teen parties at the center must be reserved in advance, and this sets aside private studio space for two hours. Art projects typically take 30 to 90 minutes to complete, according to the center, and this party arrangement also allows time for a birthday cake and food.

Teens who enjoy flying have an opportunity to have a party in Indianapolis that takes birthday celebrants airborne. Flyboarding is an extreme water sport that uses equipment to shoot the teenager high into the air behind a personal watercraft. The flyer uses a special board with attached boots and a supply of pressurized air. The Indy Flight Academy gives the party of teens basic instruction in the use of the flyboard and jet equipment and then takes the group out to practice their skills on the water. The Indy area has a number of water locations that also offer party rooms suitable for food and a cake after the flyboarding experience.

Teens who enjoy sports have a choice of party activities for an Indy birthday event, including flying indoors on trampolines. The Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park in Fishers, a suburb of Indy, offers a party venue for 10 to 25 party jumpers. A birthday event at the zone includes an hour of private jump time on the trampolines, special shoe rental for all members at the party and food, including a birthday cake. Party fees also reserve a private room for dining and the birthday celebration.

The Young Chefs Academy in Indianapolis offers a number of teen birthday cooking experiences. The basic features elementary kitchen fun to develop a love of cooking, but the party venue also provides a class for the serious teen chef and a group of friends wanting to learn about culinary skills while at the same time giving a nod to the birthday celebrant. The academy also helps plan specialized events that allow customizing the party specifically for the birthday honoree. A cooking celebration for teens who typically avoid the kitchen but love the backyard grill includes a special event at Chef JJ's Back Yard in Indy's Broad Ripple neighborhood. JJ's does the party planning for up to six guests at the yard, but the cooking venue also puts on a special grilling party at the birthday teenager's house.
