New York City is not dubbed "the city that never sleeps" for nothing. Many of the state's most exciting attractions gear up after dark, as do many teens. If you're traveling to the Big Apple with a teenager, take advantage of all there is to do once the sun goes down.
Exploring New York is a full-time job so naturally many sightseeing opportunities continue into the night. Reserve a seat for a tour of the city either aboard a double-decker bus or via an evening cruise around New York Harbor, where you and your teen can take in popular landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. The Empire State Building Observatory offers views of the entire city and is open until 2 a.m. for serious night owls.
Shows and Concerts
Radio City Hall books some of the world's best musical acts and entertainment. Scheduled shows generally start around 7:30 p.m. or later. Broadway and off-Broadway houses, like the popular New York City Theater, come to life at night with comedy acts, famous shows, musicals, plays and dance performances. Featured performances change constantly, so plan ahead.
Attractions and Entertainment
Times Square is a feast for the eyes day and night. In addition to its glittering lights, Times Square is chock-full of nighttime entertainment. Teens can game it up at Dave & Busters, chow down at one of the area's popular dining spots, and check out the massive Virgin Megastore. Central Park is also a must-see for teens, and during peak season, which begins in October, the park's Trump Rink offers nighttime ice-skating.
Museums are anything but stuffy and boring in New York. Ripley's Believe it or Not! Times Square Odditorium consists of 18,000 square feet packed with more than 500 oddball and unbelievable exhibits. Nightowlish teens will like that Ripley's stays open after midnight. Pop culture-loving teens should check out Madame Tussauds, which features more than 220 wax figures as well as the Marvel Super Heroes 4D Experience.
