There may not be snow on the ground and a chill in the air, but Los Angeles is just as exciting during the Christmas holiday season as any other big city, offering plenty of options for a Christmas-themed date. Whether you are planning a date during the holiday season or Christmas Day itself, you and your date are sure to get caught up in L.A.'s versions of Christmas entertainment.

Amusement Park Attractions

Take your date to Universal Studios Hollywood for its annual Grinchmas celebration, a roughly two-week holiday event that is also open on Christmas Day. A portion of the amusement park is turned into Whoville from the Dr. Seuss book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas. You and your date can check out the massive, curved Christmas tree, get playful with the manufactured snow and take a picture with the ornery Grinch himself. You and your date can also stroll Universal's CityWalk area, full of restaurants and entertainment venues; live street entertainment is also provided throughout the holiday season. You can also take your date to Santa Monica Pier Pacific Park, a small carnival-style amusement park at the end of the pier. The park and all rides, which are covered in holiday decor, are open nearly year round, including Christmas Day.

Ice Skating Venues

Los Angeles has several outdoor skating rinks set up during the holidays. Head to Pershing Square in downtown to skate with your date on the largest outdoor rink in the city. As part of its "Downtown on Ice" holiday celebration, daily holiday concerts, skating exhibitions and a holiday festival take place around and on the ice, ensuring plenty of other things to do if you tire of skating. For a more upscale and intimate ice skating experience, head to the W Los Angeles-Westwood hotel, which transforms its pool area into a winter wonderland, complete with an an ice rink at its center. The enchanting experience includes twinkling Christmas trees, an ice bar, luxury cabanas to relax in and fake snow that "magically" falls every hour. Both skating rinks are open on Christmas Day.

Christmas Light Crawl

Enjoy the lights of the holiday season by going on a Christmas light crawl with your date. Several neighborhoods throughout the greater Los Angeles area are known for their fantastic light displays during the holiday season. In Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley, the intersection of Lubao Street and Oxnard Street is known as Candy Cane Lane during the holidays, as the neighbors go all out with over-the-top light displays. Cruise through slowly while listening to holiday tunes in the car. You can also check out the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood's light display in the Torrance area of Los Angeles. Park and stroll hand-in-hand with your date to admire the displays up close. Grab hot chocolate, often sold by the neighborhood kids, along the way. Other places with stunning light displays to check out include the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills

Christmas Day Entertainment

You can enjoy a fantastic Christmas Day date without heading to the Christmas-themed spots that are sure to be packed on this special holiday. If you and your date are into sports, the NBA teams in Los Angeles, the Lakers and the Clippers, almost always host a game in Los Angeles on Christmas Day. Head to Venice Beach with a plastic sled or boogie board to slide down the gigantic sand hills that are piled up to protect the beach communities from winter storms, an excellent Southern California alternative to traditional sledding. Avoid the heavy movie crowds on Christmas Day by planning an early afternoon movie date. Keep with the holiday spirit by choosing a Christmas-themed movie.
