Toddlers' Activities Near Lee's Summit, MO

by Amy Sutton, studioD

Lee's Summit, Missouri, near Kansas City, was ranked 27th out of 100 top small cities in the United States, according to a list compiled in 2010 by CNN Money. With an excellent school system, many families make Lee's Summit their home. Moms with young children are often on the lookout for places to go for fun, and several entertaining places for toddlers can be found in and near Lee's Summit.

Mid-Continent Public Library

Lee's Summit moms can take their toddlers to the Mid-Continent Public Library, Lee's Summit Branch (mymcpl.org). Snuggle up with your toddler in the children's book area and share a story together. Then, choose some good books to take home for a story at bedtime. Toddler story time takes place on Thursday mornings at this branch, as well. At story time, moms and their toddlers can enjoy stories together and spend time interacting with other moms and toddlers.

Paradise Park

Paradise Park is a popular destination for moms with toddlers in Lee's Summit. The children's "edutainment" center, designed for children 9 and younger, encourages exploration, fun and discovery play through hands-on activities. While playing and interacting with other young children in this safe, enclosed environment, you can watch as your toddler learns important social and physical skills. When the weather is nice, enjoy time outside with your toddler at the gem mining stream. You can both pan for shiny gems and other treasures.

Xtreme Gymnastics

For something a bit different, moms can take their toddlers for a more physical activity at Xtreme Gymnastics (xgtkids.com). At preschool fun time, toddlers and their moms can join in on all sorts of activities. Climb, balance and jump on the preschool equipment or check out the inflatable obstacle course. Bounce on the 4-inch ground trampolines and then slide down the under ground trench slide. No matter which activity you choose, your toddler is sure to have a swell time.

Kansas City Zoo

Mom looking for somewhere extra special to take their toddlers can plan a day at the Kansas City Zoo (kansascityzoo.org). Toddlers will love checking out all of the animals, including sea lions, giraffes and zebras. In the Kids Zone, your little one can climb around like a meerkat or squawk like a bird while sliding from level to level in the Discovery Barn. You will also get an up close look at exotic animals, like marine toads, macaws and lemurs.
