Things for Teenagers to Do in Nashville

by Jane Rodda, studioD

Nashville, Tennessee, is the nation's hub of country music and is a center for a wide variety of other musical genres. Also known as Music City, teens will find many exciting things to do here, whether it is taking in all that the music scene has to offer or exploring the numerous other big city attractions.

Specialty Tours

Teens may appreciate an informative tour, especially if it is on an unusual vehicle. The Music City Trolley Hop takes passengers to seven attractions throughout the downtown area including Bicentennial Park and The Country Music Hall of Fame. A guide at the helm of the trolley answers questions and points out interesting facts. The General Jackson Showboat is a paddle boat river cruise that goes down the Cumberland River. The boat features live music and dining on board. Another option is a ride on the Nashville Double Decker. Much like the London buses, passengers can ride through the city with a guided tour atop these two-story vehicles.

The Music Scene

To witness why it's called Music City, a visit to Music Row is a must. Located in the heart of downtown, several blocks are lined with live music venues, recording labels, souvenir shops, classic music stores and eateries. Teens can walk down the street any time of day, any day of the week and see live music. In addition to the music clubs that are open to all ages until 9:00 p.m., street performers are also scattered throughout the area. The Country Music Hall of Fame is located a few blocks up -- if your teen is a country music fan, this is the place to go. It chronicles the history of the music with moving image displays, world famous artist artifacts and displays, and old stage costumes. The Grand Ole Opry offers a busy schedule of shows and concerts featuring current and all-time country music favorites.

Outdoor Fun

Team Green Adventures provides excursions into the great outdoors. Teens can go backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing and horseback riding. Guides and equipment are made available through Team Green. During hot weather teens will enjoy Nashville Shores, a water park with tube slides, flume slides, a vortex ride, a lazy river, a wave pool and plenty of space for sunbathing and hanging out. Europa Go-Karts and Golf may also interest teens, providing batting cages, go-karts, mini golf and arcade games.

Indoor Options

Sky High Sports offers a trampoline-lined arena on the floors and walls, creating a jumping and flipping space for teens. Visitors can jump as they please or participate in the dodgeball games and fitness programs. Laser Quest, a laser tag arena offering lighting effects and challenging games, is another popular venue for teens. Tusculum Lanes is a family-friendly bowling alley with a large arcade including air hockey and skee ball and a full snack bar.
