Things to Do Near Gilbert, AZ With Toddlers

The city of Gilbert, Arizona is in the southeast corner of the Phoenix metropolitan area. It is densely populated with the cities of Mesa and Chandler right next door. Activities to do with toddlers are plentiful with many support services in Gilbert. You will also toddler-friendly activities in neighboring cities just a few minutes away.


The city of Gilbert (gilbertaz.gov) provides many parks perfect for toddler play. Discovery District Park (no website; 2214 East Pecos Road; 480-503-6200) features a playground area, lakes that would be fun for geese watching and walking trails to get the wiggles out. Freestone Park (no website; 1045 E. Juniper Road; 480-503-6200) has a miniature train to ride along with playground equipment, lakes and trails. Water Town Plaza (no website; 45 W. Page Avenue; 480-503-6200) is a great park for hot days, as it features a water fountain for your toddler to get cool.

Classes Together

The Little Gym (thelittlegym.com) offers parent-child classes for toddlers. It aims to develop a strong foundation for achieving milestones with you there to encourage your child every step of the way. USA Youth Fitness Center (usagymaz.com) features a parent-tot class using trampolines, obstacle courses and equipment instruction to foster motor development for toddlers. SAS Dance Studio (sasdance.com) has classes for toddlers called "Bouncing Babies," "Dancing Divas" and "Disco Tots." These classes combine a number of introductory dance skills in ballet, tap and jazz.

Play Places

Spending time jumping around and playing can be done indoors on really hot days. Villari's (villariscenters.com) has a large indoor playground with slides, swings, puppet theater, games and a separate toddler area. Parents can either join in or relax in the Wi-Fi cafe and lounge. Bounce U (bounceu.com) features several inflatable bounce toys, with many suitable for toddlers. Programs include family night bounce, preschool play-dates, cosmic bounce and all-ages open bounce. Music and games will often accompany the bouncing fun.


The Riparian Institute (riparianinstitute.org) is a natural preserve open to visitors for outdoor and wildlife exploring. Toddlers will benefit from the "Little Nature Explorer" program aimed to build curiosity in little ones about the outdoors and nature. A guide will lead you and your tot around the preserve teaching all about the critters and plants along the way. Seven miles from Gilbert in Mesa is the Arizona Museum for Youth (arizonamuseumforyouth.com). It features "Artville," an area set aside for toddlers with kitchen play, art creation, performing arts and reading fun.
