Things to Do with Kids in St. Clairsville, OH

Aptly nicknamed "Paradise on the Hill," St. Clairsville, Ohio, is a small city located about 11 miles from the West Virginia border town of Wheeling. Whether you live in the city, or are planning a visit, you'll find plenty of activities in and near rural St. Clairsville to keep the kids busy year round.


Located in Bellaire just 12 miles from St. Clairsville, the Plastic Brick Museum (danstoymuseum.blogspot.com), also known as the "Unofficial LEGO Museum," is open to the public to view numerous magnificent Lego creations. Kids will also enjoy shopping at the on-premise store. The Children's Museum of the Ohio Valley (cmovkids.org), located in 10 miles from St. Clairsville in Wheeling, West Virginia, provides kids with many interactive exhibits and educational experiences. Exhibits include a puppet theater, construction play zone, a climbing wall and art studios.

Game Centers

St. Clair Lanes (stclairlanes.com) provides 20-lanes of bowling fun with automatic scoring, cosmic bowling, food and drinks, tournaments and leagues. Perry's Glo Putt (perrysgloputt.com) is a glow-in-the-dark miniature golf course featuring 36 holes with fun themes. All ages are welcome to walk in and start playing. You can also take the kids to Wheeling Park (wheeling-park.com), located 15 miles from St. Clairsville in Wheeling. It has an ice skating rink, miniature golf, a swimming pool with a water slide and a playground.

Sports and Dance

The city of St. Clairsville (stclairsville.com) facilitates youth sports leagues for children 3- to 12-years-old. It offers programs in flag football, basketball and indoor soccer. For the little ballerina in your midst, The Dance Difference (thedancedifference.com) will meet your dance class needs. Starting at 18 months, kids can participate in parent-child Dance-with Me and Tumble-with-Me classes, which help develop social and motor skills. Older children can choose from a variety of classes including tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, modern dance, music theater and hip-hop.

Wildlife and Nature

Eleven miles from St. Clairsville in Belmont is Barkcamp State Park (dnr.state.oh.us) where you'll find a wealth outdoor wilderness activities. Kids will likely enjoy the disc golf course, archery ranges, horseshoe pits, hiking trails and watching wildlife. Belmont Lake provides water recreation including swimming, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Overnight camping is available, or just come for the day. At the 30-acre Good Zoo at Oglebay Resort (oglebay-resort.com) kids can have up-close visits with red pandas, meerkats, spectacled bears, African wild dogs, pigs, donkeys and many more rare or endangered species.
