Things to Do With Kids in Battle Creek, MI

Battle Creek, Michigan is the world headquarters for the Kellogg Company, earning it the nickname "Cereal City." With a population of about 52,000, the area provides ample opportunities for fun with the kids. Whether you are just visiting Tony the Tiger's hometown or you are considering a move to Battle Creek, you will find some quality children-parent activities.


Battle Creek is home to several multi-dimensional parks perfect for activities with the kids. Bailey Park (no website; 1392 Capital Ave.; 269-966-3431) is 80-acres of baseball fields, shuffleboard courts, sand volleyball and playgrounds. Linear Park (no website; Capital Ave.; 269-966-3431) features over 17 miles of trails along rivers, through woods, open fields and grassy areas. Many spots along the way provide fishing, picnicking and playground opportunities. Willard Beach Park (no website; Capital Ave.; 269-966-3431) has a sandy beach and picnic pavilions on Goguac Lake.

Theme Parks and Museums

The Binder Park Zoo (binderparkzoo.org) not only features the traditional animal exhibits like giraffes, monkeys and cheetahs, but it also has many educational programs for kids. "Knee-High Naturalists" and "Little Explorers" are just two of the programs offered. The Kingman Museum (kingmanmuseum.org) features natural history and science exhibits including a planetarium. Full Blast (fullblast.org) is both an indoor and outdoor water park featuring slides, splash pools and giant inflatables. It also has dry attractions such as batting cages, fitness equipment, basketball courts and a snack bar.

Game Centers

For bowling fun with the kids, M-66 Bowl (m66bowl.biz) is an excellent choice, offering 56 lanes with electronic scoring, a full snack bar and league play. Riverview Recreation (riverviewrecreationincandhitemhere.com) provides two miniature golf courses, go-karts, batting cages, video games, bumper boats and Animaland, a stuffed animal building station. Midway Roller Rink (no website; 11448 East Michigan Ave.; 269-965-7117) offers open roller skating for the whole family and skating lessons.

Sporting Events

The Battle Creek Blaze (battlecreekblaze.org) is a not-for-profit football team with an aim to raise funds for local cancer victims; attending games is not only fun, but it also supports a good cause. The team plays in the Interstate Football League with regular season games open to the public. The Kellogg Arena (kelloggarena.com) hosts several events including roller derbys, pool tournaments and a professional basketball team from the Independent Basketball League, the Battle Creek Knights.
