New Brunswick, New Jersey is a city with a well-rounded collection of child-friendly activities. Here, your kids can enjoy the city's annual special events, indoor activities, as well as time in the great outdoors. No matter your children's ages or interests, New Brunswick has things to do to keep them busy and happy.
The New Brunswick Public Library offers a variety of special events for children 3 years old and older. Drop in for weekly Math and Science Story Time where librarians read stories, sing songs and lead activities all focused on important math and science concepts for children ages 3 to 6. During the summer, your preschool and elementary-age children can participate in the summer reading program. Register at the checkout desk to receive a packet with a summer reading list and activity log. Your kids can earn prizes each week by completing the reading activities and turning in the activity log. The New Brunswick library also hosts special events each month for children ages 7 to 17. For example, on Spy Day your kids can create disguises and play laser tag, while on Game Day, they can join in with other kids, playing board games and interactive video games. The library also hosts events for older children and teens where guests come by and present interesting materials like fossils as well as live wild animals.

Each division races separately, and the winner of each receives a trophy. Build a soap box car with your child and enter the Soap Box Derby, or enjoy the derby as spectators. The day before the big race, you can attend the family picnic, as well.
The George Street Playhouse is devoted to providing a home for veteran and emerging theater artists and even offers instructional classes and seasonal camps through the George Street Playhouse Academy.
