How to Tell If a Guy Wants to Date You

by Jennifer Oster, studioD

It can be difficult to interpret what the opposite sex may be thinking or feeling. If you're interested in a guy, you may want to look for signs that he's into you. By evaluating the situation as a whole and looking for specific signs, you may be able to get an idea of whether or not he would be interested in dating you.

Look at his body language. People who are comfortable with another person may sit closer or turn their bodies in the direction of the other person when having a conversation. If he's using friendly touch -- even better.

Watch for eye contact. If a guy is into you, he'll likely look you in the eyes when he is speaking. If he's looking you in the eye, it's likely that he's being genuine and may be interested in you.

Notice whether he makes time for you. If a guy wants to date you, even if you're just friends, he'll make an effort to see you or interact with you. It's a good sign if he's making an effort.

Take notice of his listening skills. If a guy is into a woman, he'll most likely be genuinely interested in what she has to say -- unless he has other motives or just isn't interested. If he's taking an active part in the conversation and is really listening to you, he's probably interested.

Step back for a moment and evaluate the whole situation as if you weren't a person involved. If you're just grasping for straws with no real proof that he may be interested, try engaging him and see if he takes action by showing signs that he wants to date you. For example, if you aren't around him enough to evaluate his body language, ask him to hang out in order to assess the situation and possibly get him interested.

Ask -- there is no better way to find out if a guy wants to date you than to just simply ask. It's the 21st century and not uncommon for a woman to take the initiative. If he's interested, he'll jump at the opportunity. If he's not, the worst thing he can say is no. It may be upsetting at first, but this method is a quick and easy way to get an answer fast.
