Sauble Beach, a community nestled along the shore of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada, is the second longest fresh water beach in the world. This town is home to only about 2,000 residents but draws in many visitors, especially during the summer months when people flock to the beach. If your family lives in Sauble Beach or you're planning a vacation there, you'll find an assortment of kid-friendly activities for your family to do in the summer.
Beach and Water Activities
Sauble Beach offers a wide variety of water activities. At Makin' Waves (makinwaves.ca), you can rent personal watercrafts to zip through the water with your kids. There are even inflatable, battery powered ones for the kids to operate. If you have a boat, rent one of the tube rides to pull your kids through the water. Jack n Jill's Surf Shop (jacknjills.net) rents out kite boards, surfboards and paddle boards. Of course you could always just enjoy activities on the beach, as well. Splash in the waves, build a sandcastle, or lay back and relax on Sauble Beach (no website; 22 Main Street, Sauble Beach; 519-422-1642).
Off the Beach
Make a visit to Giggles Arcade (gigglesarcade.com) with your kids, where you can play an assortment of games. There are video games, pinball machines and sports-themed games that your family can play to earn tickets to trade for prizes. If your family enjoys golf, you could head over to the Sauble Golf and Country Club (users.sitewaves.com/index.cfm?member=saublegolf) to play 18 holes. There are also golf lessons and a pro shop on-site. When you're done playing, grab a bite to eat at Bogey's Pub at the end of the course.
Attend some of the events that take place during the summer in Sauble Beach. In July, Sauble Beach celebrates Canada Day with live music and children's activities, including face painting, arts and crafts and bracelet beading, and a spectacular fireworks show. Throughout the summer, on Wednesday nights, your family can attend Family Movie Night, next to Giggles Arcade. Bring along a blanket, stretch out with your kids and enjoy a family-friendly movie like The Smurfs, Brave or Jumanji. In August, go to the Sauble Beach Sandfest for live entertainment, fun family activities, a sandcastle building contest and classic car show.
Take your kids on a camping trip in Sauble Beach. At Sauble Beach Resort Camp (saubleresortcamp.com), your kids can enjoy the playground or indoor heated pool and hot tub, play basketball or participate in scheduled children's activities. Carsons Camp (carsonscamp.on.ca) is a campground for families that features themed activities each week during the summer for young campers. Themes might include Super Hero Week, Olympic Week or Mad Science Week. Or, you can stay at Winding River Campground (windingrivercampground.com). This campground is situated in the forest and offers canoeing, fishing, a playground, volleyball and badminton.
