How to Style a Leather Jacket With Pants

by Pamela Simmons

Leather jackets are eternally cool and edgy. If you've got a leather jacket and you're not sure how to style it, don't worry -- leather jackets are much more versatile than you may think and can be worn in a variety of ways. Whether you're a leather-jacket-wearing newbie or an old pro, find a new, surprising and fashionable way to pair your jacket with pants.

With Jeans

Jeans and leather jackets are a natural pairing -- they're both laid-back and cool pieces. Any fit jean will work, so wear your leather jacket with skinny jeans, boot cut styles and even more relaxed boyfriend cut jeans. Leather jackets will also work with any denim wash, so feel free to mix and match. Under your jacket, all you need is a simple t-shirt -- graphic and vintage tees have a trendy feel. On your feet, slip on boots or even a simple pair of ballet flats or canvas sneakers to keep your feet comfortable.

With Floral Pants

Mix soft and hard by wearing your leather jacket with floral-print pants. Your floral pants will work with a leather jacket in any shade so don't regulate this look to just black jackets. Pair your pants with a summery hue like a lemon yellow or an aqua. On the other hand, black jackets provide a stark contrast next to a feminine print that really makes your look stand out, so try this combination as well. A simple tank or blouse under your jacket and a pair of heels below finish off the style.

With Leggings

Stretchy, comfortable leggings become more fashionable when paired with a leather jacket. Throw your leather jacket over simple black leggings and an over-sized t-shirt to add a quick stylish flair to your look. This can be incredibly versatile -- slip on a pair of cool sneakers to keep it casual, a pair of ankle boots to make it edgy, or a pair of heels to dress it up.

Shorts

Though shorts may seem more of a spring or summer piece, they work incredibly well with a leather jacket. If it's not too cool out, pick a jacket in a lighter fabric to keep you comfortable. A leather jacket is a functional addition to your look on those days that are warm in the afternoon and chilly in the morning and at night. As soon as the temperatures drop, throw on your jacket to keep your arms warm. In the fall and winter, slip on a pair of tights under your shorts to keep your legs comfortable. Both menswear-inspired loafers and oxfords are the perfect way to complete your ensemble.
