Songs for Toddlers About Trucks

by Susan Revermann

Whether you’re trying to introduce a community helpers theme, add music to your toddler’s sensory table experience or just looking for a good sing-along, there are plenty of truck songs to go around and around. You can even make up your own silly little dance to go with the jingles.

Many Different Trucks

If you’re looking for a song about many different types of trucks, look no further. This works well when discussing different community helpers and their vehicles. KidSongs.com delivers this song: "I like trucks, I always will, Big or small I like them still, I like trucks, I always will, I like trucks, A fire truck is shiny red, With a ladder oh so long, The milk truck comes before I wake, With milk to make me strong, A garbage truck, A pickup truck, They're all so big and tough, Oh and when I see them, I can't seem to get enough, Cause, I like trucks, I always will, Big or small I like them still, I like trucks, I always will, I like trucks, A moving truck carries things, You want to move around, And the eighteen wheelers go between, Every city and town, I guess I just appreciate, All the things that they can do, Oh and when I can drive one, It'll make my dreams come true, I like trucks, I always will, Big or small I like them still, I like trucks, I always will, I like trucks, I like trucks, I-I-I li-i-i-ke trucks, I like 'em."

Dump Trucks

Dump trucks need some love, too. You can easily pair this song provided by GoodKids.net with a sensory table filled with sand and a handful of small dump trucks. You could also use this to go with a construction worker discussion. The song goes like this: "Five big dump trucks rolling down the road, Five big dump trucks rolling down the road, One pulls off to unload, Four big dump trucks rolling down the road, Four big dump trucks rolling down the road, One pulls off to unload, Three big dump trucks rolling down the road, Three big dump trucks rolling down the road, One pulls off to unload, Two big dump trucks rolling down the road, Two big dump trucks rolling down the road, One pulls off to unload, One big dump truck rolling down the road, One big dump truck rolling down the road, It pulls off to unload, No more dump trucks rolling down the road."

Broken Down Truck

Need a song to honor that sad broken-down truck? Maybe your son’s favorite toy truck just lost its wheel or got run over because it was left in the driveway. Lighten the mood by singing Chris Ballew’s song called “Little Broken Truck.” Here it goes: “Poor little broken truck (beep beep beep), ran all out of gas (and got stuck), used to haul rubber ducks, yellow, orange and blue and pink. Used to haul sippy cups, so you don't drip and spill your drink. Used to haul Teddy bears, so cute you could hear them roar, but not no more, no, not no more. Poor little broken truck (beep beep beep), ran all out of gas (and got stuck). Used to drive over hills, up and down and through the day. Down the road past the mills, like a ribbon winds away. Used to ride on smiling tires, one and two and three and four, but not no more, no, not no more. Poor little broken truck (beep beep beep), ran all out of gas (and got stuck). Used to haul fireflies, so baby always had a light. Used to haul story books, fairy tales and lullabies. Used to haul good night hugs, don't you cry and don't feel poor, no not no more (no no), don't you feel poor. Poor little broken truck (beep beep beep), ran all out of gas (and got stuck)."

Trucks and Other Stuff

Want a sing-along song for trucks and other vehicles? Go with “Toot Toot Beep Beep” by Madeline L. Pots. Run through these lyrics with your toddler: "Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep. I want to be the person who drives the truck, drives the truck, drives the truck. I want to be the person who drives the truck, I'll drop things off and pick them up. I like cars and motorcycles and trains that go clickity clack, helicopters and buses and planes and trolleys that ride on a trolley track, but mainly, I like trucks. Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep. I want to be the person who washes the truck, washes the truck, washes the truck. I want to be the person who washes the truck, when it gets dirty I'll clean it up. I want to be the person who fixes the truck, Fixes the truck, fixes the truck. I want to be the person who fixes the truck, When it gets broken or it gets stuck. I like cars and motorcycles and trains that go clickity clack, Helicopters and buses and planes and trolleys that ride on a trolley track, but mainly, I like trucks. Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep, Toot Toot Beep Beep."
