Is It Safe to Exfoliate the Face Daily?

by Ruth Altman

When skin looks tired, lifeless and dull, it may be time to exfoliate. Many individuals choose to exfoliate daily because it maintains their skin's natural glow while removing dead skin cells. Whether they choose manual or chemical methods, exfoliating the skin is a necessary step toward a more youthful and beautiful complexion.

Keeping It Safe

It is safe to exfoliate every day as long as you do so gently and carefully. Safe forms of exfoliation include chemicals such as glycolic acid and salicylic acid and manual methods such as natural grains, brushes or textured sponges. Any form of exfoliation is safe for daily use when performed gently. If skin appears red, feels sensitive or experiences excessive dryness, you may be over-exfoliating. Try alternating the days you exfoliate your face in the case of sensitivity. For best results, you may also want to alternate between chemical and manual exfoliants to achieve gentle and effective daily exfoliation.
