Places to Have a Kid's Birthday Party in Montgomery, Alabama

by Jane Rodda

Montgomery, Alabama is situated along the southern banks of the Alabama River amid rolling green hills. It has a wealth of historical landmarks and is also brimming with contemporary art and culture. With a population of 205,293, according to the 2012 U.S. Census estimate, you'll find an assortment of places where you can have your child's next birthday party in this bustling city.

Outdoors and Wildlife

If you are trying to stay under a budget, consider one of the many parks in the area that would serve as scenic birthday spots. Gateway Park has picnic shelters and a lodge available for reservation. The park itself includes ball fields, a large lake, hiking trails and basketball courts. Riverfront Park also has shelter rentals along with green space, a splash pad, a train shed and river access. The Montgomery Zoo also rents out picnic shelters. You'll have to bring your own food and party supplies, but your guests can enjoy being amidst the sights and sounds of the zoo.

Play Places

If your kids are ages 8 or older, consider having the party at Splattered Woods Paintball and Laser Tag. The laser tag option is available for kids ages 8 and up, while for a game of paintball, your guests have to be at least age 9. The venue provides the equipment and play field, as well as a referee for paintball, but you have to bring your own refreshments for your guests. Keep in mind that Splattered Woods Paintball and Laser Tag will also bring the laser tag game to a location of your choosing. Alternatively, if you don't mind driving 13 miles up the road to Prattville, Wonder World Fun Center is an idea. It has laser tag, roller-skating, jumpshot, inflatables and a video arcade. Birthday packages include pizza, soft drinks, laser tag or skating and game tokens.

Sports and Game Centers

Bama Lanes is an ideal place to have a bowling birthday party. Its party package includes two hours of bowling and party time, shoe rentals, food options, bumpers, sodas, ice cream and a bowling pin bouquet for the birthday guest. Brunswick Zone is another bowling option, featuring a special signed bowling pin for the birthday kid. The package also has pizza, drinks and bowling for the rest of the party goers. Alternatively, the Ice Palace at the Eastdale Mall offers ice-skating parties that includes a skating session, party table and invitations. There are several eateries in the mall that will cater your skating party. The Ice Palace can offer suggestions.

Science and Historical Sites

Give your kids a thrill by booking your party on a 19th century riverboat. The Harriet II Riverboat is docked along Riverfront Park. It offers birthday packages that include a cake, party favors, balloons and the best part of all is that the birthday child gets to drive the boat. However, if your birthday child wants to travel to other galaxies, rent out the W.A. Gayla Planetarium, located on the campus of Troy University. You can have the party in the lobby, and then watch a show in the auditorium.
