Places to Celebrate a 3-Year-Old's Birthday in Austin, Texas

by Zora Hughes

Although Austin is known for its eclectic culture and live music scene, it's also a very kid-friendly city. If you are looking for an ideal venue for your tot's third birthday, there are plenty of top-notch venues to choose between, from museums, to arts centers and even a classic Texas pony ranch.

Play Centers

If you find your toddler is constantly jumping and bouncing on the furniture in your home, driving you crazy, take him to Locomotion Inflatable Play (locomotionplay.net) for his birthday. This toddler-friendly center features wall-to-wall inflatable slides, bounce houses and ball pits. It offers a wide variety of 2-hour party packages including a party conductor to organize your tot's special day. Another play center, Texas Jumping Beans (texasjumpingbeans.com) is located in the Austin suburb of Round Rock. It offers 12,000 square feet of inflatables, obstacle courses, a DVD movie projector and four party rooms. There is also a separate toddler area with its own ball pit. Birthday party packages include a private party room, tableware and balloons.

Children's Museum and Zoo

All the interactive and educational exhibits at the Austin Children's Museum make it an excellent option for your 3-year-old's birthday party. The museum combines fun and learning with exhibits such as the Global City, a tot-sized play city where kids can explore how people work and play together in a diverse city. Birthday party packages include a museum assistant, a private room, a t-shirt for each child and free passes for each guest's next visit. The Austin Zoo also offers birthday party packages in their picnic area. Optional additions include train rides, animal food for the petting zoo area and the use of a grill.

Outdoor Adventure Venues

Dino-loving tots will flip over a birthday party at Dinosaur Park (thedinopark.com), located in the Austin suburb of Bastrop. At this all-outdoor museum, toddlers can dig up fossils in the sand, look for dinosaur footprints and for the brave, take a picture next to T-Rex's head. Birthday parties include a reserved picnic area and free printable invitations. For a true Texas-style birthday party, dress your toddler up in their best western gear for a celebration at the Little Buckaroo Ranch (littlebuckarooranch.com). This working pony ranch offers a wide variety of country western theme party packages, such as the "Barnyard Buddy Party" and the "Let's Rodeo! Party." All parties can include grilled food options and pony rides.

Art Centers

For the toddler that loves arts and crafts, consider a birthday party at Abrakadoodle (abrakadoodle.com), a franchise art center for kids. Choose from dozens of themes or you can create your own theme and the staff will coordinate the art projects to match it. Your party will include toddler-friendly arts and crafts, all materials and a framed piece of art to take home. The Art Garage (theartgarageaustin.com) is another art center that offers creative kid parties. Art activities at The Garage are based on the age group. Party Themes include Precious Handprints and Tie-Dye Parties.
