Party Places for Kids in the Washington, D.C. Area

by Jane Rodda

The area of Washington D.C. is a diverse region including portions of Virginia and Maryland. There are a large number of party places for kids around the nation's capital -- the hard part will be narrowing it down. Whether you are looking for fascinating museums, artistic outlets or game centers, you will find it in the D.C. area.

Party and Learn

The Be with Me Children's Playseum provides party packages at its kid-sized city. It provides all of the supplies, an opportunity to create cupcakes, a private party room, a themed story time and plenty of time in the museum. At the International Spy Museum, your kids can have an active scavenger hunt with the mission to decode a secret message. The party package also includes cake, party favors, a host and a special spy gift for your guest of honor. The party experience is suitable for 7- to 12-year-olds. The National Building Museum will also host your party, providing hands-on building and construction activities for kids. Guests get party favors and tickets to the museum.

Games and Splashes

There are plenty of fun centers and amusement parks that will host your party. Jonah's Treehouse is an indoor playground offering parties for kids. It takes care of the setup, cleanup, paper supplies, imaginative activities and decorations. Cameron Run Regional Park in Alexandria, Virginia, features miniature golf, water slides, batting cages, a wave pool, a multi-level play structure and a large kiddie pool. You can rent the picnic shelters for your party, gaining you free admission to the water park and mini golf. The Water Park at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland, has a 250-foot long water slide, a splash pad with slides and a play structure and tropical-themed main pool with spill buckets and other water toys. You can rent out picnic space at the park and receive group rates for your party.

Get Creative

All Fired Up is a pottery and painting studio where kids can make fused glass projects, mosaics and painted pottery. You can choose from several themes for your party, such as sports, under the sea, animals or fun foods. The party package consists of the necessary paper products, setup, cleanup and balloons. The Create Arts Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, lets you come up with an art project for the party, with access to a party room, art supplies, paper products and cake. Projects can range from beads and 3D collages to mask-making, book-making and painting flower pots.

Action-Packed Parties

Perhaps you have a group that could burn off some energy. At the Dobre Gymnastics Academy, your party goers can take to the gym. It has foam pits, trampolines, tumbling mats and rope swings ideal for kids to have some active fun. After some time in the gym, you can use the party room for food, presents and cake. If you are having a winter party, consider the Washington Harbour Ice Rink. It provides ice skate rentals, a party space, a party host and skating instruction for your kids. The Temple Hills Skating Center in Temple Hills, Maryland, provides a complete party package. It offers roller skate admission, ice cream cake, pizza, party favors, a host, unlimited soda and free skating for up to 10 adults.
