Party Ideas for 2-Year-Old Toddlers in Minnesota

by Amy Sutton, studioD

When you are planning your 2-year-old toddler's birthday in Minnesota, there are all sorts of party ideas and locations to choose from. Toddlers are little busy bodies that are constantly on the move (which means you are constantly on the move!) so you need to choose a place where they can safely run and play. Put careful thought into selecting a party location, entertainment or games, as well as what type of food to serve.

Museum Party

You can plan your 2-year-old's party at the Minnesota Children's Museum (mcm.org), in St. Paul or Rochester, with one of their party packages. The Minnesota Children's Museum has an exhibit called Habitot that is ideal for your toddler and her friends. Habitot has mats and pads spread throughout with four areas in which to investigate and play. You can book a super celebration party with a Totally Toddlers theme that is a hands-on party with finger painting, tunnels, balls and sensory tables. Leave all of the work to the museum staff so you can enjoy your little one's party. The museum provides invitations, cake, ice cream, juice and a private party room. If you live near Duluth, plan an exciting party at the Duluth Children's Museum (duluthchildrensmuseum.org) where you'll find all kinds of hands-on, interactive children's exhibits. You can celebrate your 2-year-old's birthday in the 1,000-square foot celebration room with two hours of party time, admission to the museum for your toddler and guests, and a special birthday shirt for your child. Bring your own food and cake or let the museum provide them for you. Whatever you decide, a birthday party at either of these fun children's museums is sure to be a hit.

Party at Home

If you have enough room, why not have your toddler's party at home? You could plan to serve simple toddler-friendly finger foods and drinks, along with a cake and some ice cream. Rent a moonwalk bounce house for your two-year-old and her party guests to bounce around in. Jolly Jumpz Amusements (jollyjumpz.com) in Rochester has a small indoor/outdoor toddler moonwalk perfect for little ones 5 and under. If you want a bigger moonwalk, choose from a Sponge Bob, Disney Princesses or Dora the Explorer themed one. The kids will all love jumping around in them! Hire All About Fun 4 Kids (allaboutfun4kids.com) to come to your home to do face painting or make balloon animals for all the kids. You can get your face painted too! Your toddler will get a kick out of that. Have a petting zoo set up in your yard. Walton's-Hollow (waltons-hollow.com) in Lino Lakes will bring a small petting zoo or pony rides right to your home. Your toddler will squeal with excitement when she sees the chickens, goats, sheep, calves and rabbits in her own backyard.

Jumping or Gym Party

At Club Just Jump! (clubjustjump.com) in Woodbury you'll find a play arena full of games and inflatables on which to bounce around and a Furry Friends Factory where your toddler can create a stuffed friend and bring it to life. Packages include a private play area, pizza, drinks, free invitations and goody bags for all the kids. You can also add time in the Furry Friends Factory for an additional cost. Plan your toddler's birthday party at My Gym (my-gym.com) in Eden Prairie for a party with nonstop movement and fun. All party packages come with gym time, age-appropriate games, puppets, songs and My Gym teachers to help supervise. You get to join right in on all the festivities without having to worry about decorating, serving the guests or cleaning up, since it is all done for you. Your toddler will love having all of your attention and you will love making these memories with her.

Park Party

During seasons when the weather is nice, you can plan an outdoor party at one of the beautiful Minnesota parks in your area. Try to find a park that has a playground area suitable for toddlers and ideally picnic tables and restrooms, like the Hyland Play Area (threeriversparks.org) in Bloomington. Check with the parks department to see if you can reserve a pavilion if there is one available. Choose what kind of food to serve at the party. If there are grills there, you could serve hamburgers and hot dogs. If not, just order some pizzas to make it easy for you. Don't forget drinks and the birthday cake. Plan some toddler appropriate games for your 2-year-old and her guests, like Duck, Duck Goose or Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Everyone will be so busy running and playing on the playground, you might not even need any organized games.
