New Year's Eve and New Year's Day have been celebrated around the world for centuries in one way or another. It's often thought of as a time for starting fresh, and people signalize this in all sorts of ways. In Katy, just outside of Houston, families can savor this magical time together by participating in an array of kid-friendly activities in the area.
Family Fun Centers
Have a fun meal and play some games with your kids at Dave and Buster's, 28 minutes away in Houston. You can play games, such as milk jug toss, harpoon lagoon, cut the rope and blackout, go black light bowling in the D&B Lanes or play some billiards or shuffleboard. At Bowlmor Lanes, also in Houston, you and your kids can play a round of mini-golf, try your luck in the arcade, play boardwalk games or do some bowling. Alternatively, you could go to Times Square Entertainment in Katy to enjoy bumper bowling or glow bowling with your kids. On New Year's Eve you can go for the Early Bird Family Party and get a package deal that includes pizza, arcade games, laser tag, bowling, games and party favors.
Inflatables and Skating
Your kids can run, jump and play on all of the inflatables on New Year's Eve at Pump It Up in Katy. New Year's Eve Pop-In-Play is available from 9:30 in the morning until 5 in the evening. Or, you could let your kids skate off some of their excess energy and celebrate the new year at Mason Road Skate Center, also in Katy. Your family can roller skate, have a bite to eat and play some games in the arcade.
Ring in the new year with your family at one of the area New Year's Eve celebrations, like the New Year's Eve Live party at Discovery Green in Houston. This family-friendly event is free and features live entertainment in the Family Zone, concerts, food trucks, a parade and fireworks. The City of Sugar Land, 30 minutes away, also puts on a New Year's Eve celebration with live 3-D show, midnight countdown, live music, street entertainers and delicious treats. At the Children's Museum of Houston, your family can celebrate at the New Year's Noon Bash. Activities include a dance party, music, activities, a parade and a count down, complete with a ball drop.
Additional New Year's Activities
Spend your New Year's Eve enjoying a basketball game with your kids. You can catch a Houston Rockets game at Toyota Center in Houston. Or, take your kids to the Rainforest Café at the Katy Mills mall. Your family can enjoy a delicious buffet, sparkling apple cider to toast with, free goodies, kid-friendly entertainment and a countdown.
