Humans are social animals, exhibiting the need for interaction with others. Common interests draw people together to form social clubs. Having a unique name for a social club may draw members initially. Depending on the type of club, a funny or satiric name may be chosen by the founding members. It's important to allow each new member to have input to make him feel validated and integral to the club. A well-chosen name can allow the club to exist for a very long time, making people proud to be associated with such a group.
Research names to see if there are longstanding clubs in existence. A computer is the easiest way to gather this information.
Brainstorm with other new members. Give everyone a pencil and some paper and ask them to write their 10 favorite names.
Narrow down the names and allow members to take a vote on their favorites. A fun incentive is to give the member with the winning name a small prize.
Make the club's name reflect the activity or culture with which it's associated. Try to incorporate the activity into the name.
Keep the name as short as possible. Members may want the club's name embroidered on a shirt, painted on a sign or distributed on flyers.
Remember to have fun choosing a name. If any member disagrees, try to make compromises.
