The Best MBA Distance Programs

by M.H. Davis

Online Master of Business Administration, or MBA, programs offer students the opportunity to earn a world-class business education in the comfort of their own homes. These master's programs have many of the same requirements for admission as on-campus programs. For instance, applicants must take the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, and their GPA is considered during the admission process. The top online degree programs are also fully accredited, have positive reputations in the field and provide career services for graduates.

Washington State University

In 2013, "U.S. News and World Report" ranked Washington State's online MBA program the best in the country. The program features three areas of concentration, including marketing, finance and international business, and students take three courses in each concentration area during their studies. The school's online MBA program -- which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business -- takes between 22 and 29 months to complete.

Arizona State University

Arizona State offers an online MBA program through the university's W.P. Carey School of Business. In 2013, the program was named the second best online MBA in the country by "U.S. News and World Report." There are four concentration areas that students can study, including finance, marketing, international business and supply chain management, and ASU says the program has proven to be as effective as the on-campus MBA programs they offer.

Indiana University at Bloomington

Indiana University's online MBA program, which is offered through the Kelley School of Business, was ranked third in 2013 by "U.S. News and World Report." Indiana's program focuses on general administration, covering areas like economics and finance, but it is also customizable. There are more than 60 course offerings to choose from, and students can select courses that align with their career plans. Students have between two and five years to complete their studies.

University of Florida

"U.S. News and World Report" ranked the University of Florida's online MBA fourth in 2013. There are two different degree tracks that have been designed for working professionals with two years of full-time work experience. The university offers a one-year, accelerated program for students who studied business as undergraduates, and there's a 27-month program designed for students with degrees in other subjects. Students are required to visit the university's campus once every four months for end-of-term exams and presentations.
