Prospective broadcast designers focus on all aspects of producing, designing and implementing various media productions, including television channels and programs, during college journalism and media classes. Although broadcasting programs have various descriptions and titles depending on their specific focus, students generally look for schools with strong graphic design, production and digital media opportunities.

The program prepares pupils for a variety of journalism and media careers, including Web design, digital imaging and multimedia design.

Western Schools

California’s San Francisco State University’s Department of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts offers undergraduate and graduate broadcasting media programs. Students learn about electronic media history, design and production techniques, broadcast ethics and broadcast regulations. They may focus on a particular area of interest such as broadcast journalism or audio production. Courses cover media aesthetics, broadcast communication arts and electronic media writing. The University of Colorado Boulder offers several options for those interested in broadcast design. A few of the school's undergraduate programs are broadcast production, broadcast news and media studies. Classes include programming, design, management, promotion, news writing, communication law and advertisement.

Midwestern Programs

The digital media program at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, prepares students for careers in broadcast research, writing, producing, directing, and design. Marquette’s curriculum includes courses in video production, script, film aesthetics, visual communication, mass communication and broadcasting.
