For example, at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, coursework includes such classes as Competitive Advantage, Organizational Economics and Strategy, Environmental Law, Strategic Management of Human Assets, Marketing Strategy and Managerial Decision Making. Graduates with an MBA in strategic management are equipped to analyze business operations, lead or build a competitive organization and manage volatility and change.

Chief Executive Officers

Chief executive officers -- also known as executive directors, presidents or vice presidents -- develop strategies to help organizations achieve their objectives. They are responsible for directing the company’s operations and for devising and implementing goals and policies. Chief executive officers also oversee budgets and other financial aspects of the company, manage staff and generally report to a board of trustees or directors. According to May 2012 salary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, chief executive officers earned $176,840.

Management Analysts

Management analysts, also known as management consultants, examine organizations and strategize ways to make the companies more efficient by increasing revenues and reducing costs. They conduct extensive research, which includes observing personnel and workflows and reviewing policies and such financial data as revenue and expenditure reports. Then they recommend solutions, such as new procedures, alternative practices and organizational change. As of May 2012, the annual mean wage of management analysts was $88,070, reports the BLS.

Marketing Managers

Marketing managers promote company products and services for maximum effectiveness. They analyze research data, evaluate consumer preferences and predict marketing trends. This information helps them develop a strategy to launch new products and services in existing markets, offer existing products in new markets or develop new products for a particular market. May 2012 salary data revealed the annual salary of marketing managers to be $129,870.

Human Resource Managers

The focus of human resource managers is on a company's human assets. In addition to consulting with top executives regarding strategic planning, they provide advice on sexual harassment, equal opportunity employment, employee discipline and other policies that affect how companies operate. Human resource managers also assess productivity levels and provide input regarding the best use of employees, and they recruit and hire applicants who can best meet the organization’s goals. The annual mean wage of human resources managers was $105,590 as of May 2012 according to the BLS.
