Kids' Activities in Cartersville, GA

Cartersville, Georgia, is an hour's drive north of Atlanta, making it an ideal location for finding children's activities. If you'd rather not make the drive into downtown Atlanta, you will be able to keep the kids active and engaged in Cartersville itself. With a population of about 19,000, the kids will have plenty to do in and around this small, suburban town.

Museums

Cartersville is home to a few museums that would be of interest to children. The Booth Western Art Museum (boothmuseum.org) houses more than 100 pieces of paintings and sculptures for viewing. Some of the displays highlight covered wagons and stagecoaches. The Tellus Science Museum (tellusmuseum.org) provides hands-on science exploration for children of all ages. On display is a planetarium, a solar house, a fossil gallery and an observatory. It showcases science in motion, space-age technology and microscopic photography.

Parks

Cartersville is in a picturesque environment that provides many outdoor adventure for kids. The Red Top Mountain State Park (gastateparks.org/info/redtop) boasts a large lake ideal for boating and fishing, more than 15 miles of hiking trails through the woods, camp sites, picnic areas, swimming, miniature golf, tennis courts, a playground and biking trails. Pettit Creek Farms (pettitcreekfarms.com) is an 80-acre farm complete with a petting zoo for the kids, open fields, picnic areas, hiking trails, hay rides, inflatable bounce toys and educational resources.

Sports Leagues

The city of Cartersville (cityofcartersville.org) features many youth sports leagues. It has T-ball for 4- to 5-year-olds, coach-pitch baseball for 6- to 7-year-olds and kid-pitch baseball for 8- to 18-year-olds. It also has coed basketball leagues for 5- to 8-year-olds and boys and girls leagues for 9- to 17-year-olds. Football is available as well, featuring flag football for 4- to 6-year-olds and tackle football for 7- to 12-year-olds. In addition, the city has programs for soccer, gymnastics, tennis and cheerleading.

Dance and Gymnastics Programs

Kerry's School of Dance (kerrysdance.com) offers a large selection of dance classes, including Mommy and Me classes for toddlers, beginner preschooler classes and advanced classes specializing in hip-hop, jazz, ballet and tap. Cartersville Twisters and Tumblers (cartersvilletwisters.com) provides both recreational and competitive gymnastics and tumbling classes for boys and girls. Devil Ray All Stars (devilrayallstars.com) features cheer competition teams, gymnastics programs, open gym play and inflatable toys just for fun. It has a program called "Kids Night Out" open for kids to come and play on the inflatables, rock wall and foam pits.
