How to Keep Yourself Calm During a First Kiss

by C. Giles, studioD

Your first kiss is an experience you will never forget - for better or for worse. A first kiss with a new partner can be equally significant, particularly if you have strong feelings for the person. Whether you are nervous about your very first kiss or about puckering up for the first time with someone new, there are steps you can take to calm your nerves. The more relaxed you are, the more you will enjoy it.

Tell yourself that it is completely natural to feel nervous about your first kiss. Consider that the person you are going to kiss is probably feeling the same way. Accept that some element of nervousness is normal. This is also known as mindfulness. Embrace the emotion instead of trying to change it.

Talk to trusted friends about how you are feeling. They are likely to have felt the same way. Avoid bottling up fears, which will only make you more anxious.

Record your feelings about your first kiss in a journal. This can be extremely therapeutic. Writing down your innermost thoughts and anxieties has a positive effect because it sends a message to your brain that it doesn't need to worry anymore.

Perform some muscle relaxing exercises to calm down. Stand up straight and tense every muscle in your body, one at a time, for 10 seconds. Begin with the right foot and work up to the face. The tensing action relaxes the muscle and eases feelings of anxiety.

Repeat positive phrases to yourself. Write the affirmations down if you find this more effective. Choose any phrase that makes you feel happy, relaxed and positive.
