Ideas for Birthday Parties for Kids in Queens, New York

by Zora Hughes

Finding the perfect party place for your child's next birthday in New York City's largest borough, Queens, can be downright overwhelming. Focusing on what your child is most interested in can help you narrow down your options considerably. Whether it's animals, dancing or art, Queens has excellent party venues to choose from, for all types of birthday parties.

Animals and Nature Parties

For the animal-loving tot, head to the Queens Zoo for her birthday. This small zoo is home to a wide variety of American wildlife, from bison to the black bear. It offers birthday party packages with animal experiences based on age groups. Younger kids will have the opportunity to pet and feed animals, while older kids will get to see how the animals are cared for behind the scenes. You can also have a party at the Queens County Farm Museum, which has year-round farm education programs for children and adults. Its birthday party package is all-inclusive, including pizza and juice, cake and goody bags. In addition, kids will get to go on a hay ride and feed baby farm animals.

Art and Dance Parties

Spend your artsy child's birthday at a child-friendly art studio such as Architots, which provides children's art and design classes, teaching everything from basic clay sculpting to drawing model buildings. You can choose from a variety of birthday party themes at Architots, such as princess, construction and under-the-sea themes. Parties also include pizza, cupcakes, face painting and crafts. For the kid who loves dancing, All Star Studios offers dance, acrobatic and gymnastic-themed birthday parties for kids, featuring basic dance or gymnastic lessons, and theater exercises. It offers a few different party packages, depending on what you want the studio to provide.

Play Center Parties

Play gyms are ideal party spots for kids who just want to run around and play. Kids Fun House is a gigantic indoor play space with giant jungle gym structures, huge slides, mazes, an obstacle course and a video game area. You can choose from an assortment of birthday packages, from last-minute walk-in parties to VIP birthday packages that include party decor, cotton candy, character visits, pizza, drinks and tokens for each child to play video games. BounceU is a gym filled with inflatable moon bounces, rides and games. It has several birthday party packages, including a glow-in-the-dark Cosmic Bounce party, ideal for older kids. All parties include your own private bounce room, a party room, goody bags and a T-shirt for the birthday child.

Sports and Recreation Parties

The sports fanatic kid might be thrilled with a birthday celebration at Astoria Sports Complex, which has a swimming pool, an indoor soccer field, batting cages and fitness rooms. It offers birthday parties in the party room, which includes an inflatable slide, moon bounce and ball pit. Party packages include pizza, drinks, music and goody bags. You could also celebrate at New York Sports Clubs, which have three locations in the Queens borough. Kids can choose from sports and fitness-themed parties, such as a basketball party, swim party or kickboxing party. It also offers a laser tag party. Trained instructors guide the kids through the sports activities. Party packages include invitations and a private party space.
