How to Get Rid of the Smell in Moccasins

The smell emanating from your moccasins normally comes from sweaty feet, and is caused when the moisture from sweat soaks into the soles. Once the odor becomes trapped inside the moccasin material, it can make both the shoes and your feet smell. Removing pungent smells from moccasins requires the use of absorbents that mask or kill the odor. Use techniques and products that remove smells but keep the moccasin material intact.

Sprinkle 1/8 cup of baking soda into each moccasin. Stick your hand in the shoe and rub the baking soda into the material. Let the moccasins sit unworn for 24 hours to allow the baking soda time to absorb the odor.

Place odor-absorbing foot pads inside the moccasins. Trim the pads with scissors so they fit snugly inside your shoes without disrupting the fit.

Mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup water in a bowl. Moisten a paper towel with the mixture and squeeze out the excess liquid. Gently pat the shoe interiors with the paper towel. Dry the moccasins with a clean paper towel to remove any dampness.

Set the moccasins in the sun. Open the shoes as much as possible and set them on a table in direct sunlight. The sun's rays destroy any mildew inside the moccasin and remove the odor from the shoes.
