How to Fold a Krispy Kreme Hat

The Krispy Kreme doughnut company began baking and selling doughnuts in 1937. As of the date of publication, the company is a franchise with locations all over the United States. The iconic folded paper hats worn by the employees are adorned with Krispy Kreme's green and white logo. In the 1990s the paper hats were replaced with green baseball caps, and the paper hat is a novelty item that pays tribute to the beginnings of the company. You can fold newspaper into a hat in the Krispy Kreme style.

Lay one page of newspaper on a hard, flat surface. Detach the pages by cutting along the center crease, if you have a large newspaper sheet with two attached pages. You will only use one page to make the hat.

Fold a 4-inch section longways from the bottom up, with the bottom edge pointing toward the top. Make sure the edge is even, then press the crease flat. Fold this section over itself again. Turn the newspaper around and do the same to the other side. Leave 3 to 5 inches of space between the two folds; this is the portion that will rest on the top of your head.

Loop a 1-inch piece of tape with the sticky side facing out. Repeat with three to four pieces of tape.

Place the tape inside the completed fold and press down into the newspaper until the fold is secure. Repeat with both folds. Use extra tape between the folds for a firmer hold.

Lift the newspaper off the table and bring the side edges of the two folds together. Tape each edge together on the inside of the hat. Place the tape perpendicular across the break between the edges. These two sharp edges are the front and back portions of your homemade Krispy Kreme hat.
