How to Attach a Wig to a Bald Head

Knowing how to properly attach a wig to your bald head can mean the difference between funny looks and flattering compliments. A wig will give you a new look and a new attitude, so you want to make sure it fits properly and stays in place. When you finally find that perfect wig, you need to know how to wear it. If you have a wig and you're unsure exactly how to attach it to your head, there are some techniques you should use to do an adequate and thorough job.

Wash your scalp with soap and water. You need your scalp to be free from dirt and oil before you attach the wig to your head.

Spray scalp protector on your scalp. Scalp protector creates a barrier between your scalp and the adhesive to help protect your skin. It also helps mitigate skin oils from developing and moving your wig around.

Wait approximately 15 minutes or as directed for your scalp protector to dry.

Apply liquid adhesive to your scalp with your small adhesive brush to the areas where the wig will attach to your head. Liquid adhesive is strong, so use it sparingly.

Blow dry the liquid adhesive with cool air for approximately 30 to 45 seconds. The liquid adhesive should have a consistency similar to putty but not be completely dry. If the liquid adhesive is too moist, it may cause the wig to slide around on your head when you put it on.

Press the front of your wig firmly to the liquid adhesive on your forehead with both hands. Keep pressure on the wig until it remains steady on your head. This will take a minute or two.

Bring the sides of the wig over your head to both sides of your head where you applied the liquid adhesive.

Press each side of your wig firmly to the sides of your head with both hands. Apply pressure for one or two minutes or until the wig rests snugly to your head without your assistance.

Press the back of your wig to the back of your head where you applied the liquid adhesive. Apply pressure for one or two minutes or until the wig rests snugly to your head without your assistance. Make sure your ears are free of the wig before you perform this step.
