Home Remedy to Tighten Skin on Face

by Jim Radenhausen

In youth-obsessed cultures, people of all ages worry about aging and wrinkles. If you want to help prevent the aging process from getting the best of you, try one of the following home remedies to firm and tighten your skin without resorting to pricey, potentially risky medical procedures and treatments.

Lemon Juice and Honey

Lemon juice and honey have astringent and anti-inflammatory properties that help clarify and tighten your skin and pores. Before going to bed, use a cotton ball and apply lemon juice on your face. Upon waking up in the morning, wash your face with warm water.

With its natural hydrating properties, as well as its antioxidant and antiseptic qualities, honey helps make your skin smooth and supple. You either can apply honey to your face with no dilution, or add a few drops of lemon juice to the honey. Leave the honey on for 20 minutes and then wash off.

An alternative to using lemon juice and honey by themslves is to make a thick paste by mixing 1 1/2 tablespoons of honey, 3/4 of a teaspoon of lemon juice and 2 1/2 tablespoons of ground almonds. After rubbing the mixture on your face, rinse well.

Aside from lemon juice and honey, use peaches to help tighten your skin. Rich in alpha hydroxy acids and natural exfoliants), peaches are one of the most natural moisturizers at your disposal. After peeling and crushing a ripe peach, mix all of its juices with fresh cream and apply the mix on your face. Refrigerate for future use.

Mask Tighteners

Boil one medium-sized peach to softness and crush in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon each of honey and yogurt and stir. Apply to your face and neck and let the mix rest for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then splash some cool water on your face and neck.

Make an alternative mask by using beaten egg whites. To ensure that the whites settle evenly, use a paint brush to apply. Leave on for 15 minutes. When your face is dry, use a washcloth and warm water to remove residue. After washing your face, splash rose water (which has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties) over your face to get rid of the egg white odor. Perform this routine once weekly.

While you can use cucumber as an astringent and cooling toner (much like lemon juice), you also can make a cucumber-avocado mask to tighten your skin. Mix 1/2 cup each of chopped and peeled cucumber and avocado, 1 egg white and 2 teaspoons of powdered milk until you see a smooth mixture. Refrigerate the mix for one hour. Once the mix has cooled, put it on your face and neck. Leave the mix on your face and neck for 30 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Conclude by splashing some cool water on your face.

Face Creams and Exercises

Aside from natural toners and masks, you can use any number of anti-aging and anti-wrinkle creams that are readily available on the market. Go to a local mass merchant store, pharmacy or supermarket and peruse items from companies such as L'Oreal, Oil of Olay and Neutrogena.

If you want to achieve firmer, tighter muscles on your body, exercise. It's no different for your eyes. To get rid of crow's feet, put your middle and ring fingers around your eyes' outer corners and pull the corners toward your hairline. Squeeze your eyes closed and hold. For tighter cheeks, put your index, middle and pointer fingers on your cheeks' apples, smile hard and push down. If you want a firmer forehead, perform the following exercise 10 times: Put your index fingers above your eyes, pull downward and simultaneously lift your eyebrows.
