What Is a Good Lemon After-Dinner Drink?

by Aya Pauli

From mojitos to screwdrivers, you can make many after-dinner drinks with lemon. Lemon adds a tangy twist to any drink, which helps make the beverage refreshing. This is because sour tastes make you salivate, which in turn refreshes your mouth. In addition, lemon is a versatile flavor that blends well with many beverages, alcoholic or not.

Very Vodka

Vodka is an almost flavorless alcohol that blends particularly well with lemon. Mix lemonade, orange juice and vodka to create a citrusy screwdriver that rejuvenates your taste buds after a sweet or spicy meal. Combine vodka, cranberry juice, lemon juice and orange-flavored liqueur for a lemony cosmopolitan cocktail that brings any sophisticated supper to a tasty close. Stir lemon juice with ice tea, vodka and sugar syrup to make an invigorating drink that pairs particularly well with apple desserts.

Wonderful Whiskey

Whiskey has a dark and rich flavor with a sharp bite, but it still works with a hint of lemon. Mix whiskey, sugar, bitters, lemon juice and a splash of club soda for a richly flavored end to a steak dinner. Mix whiskey, rum, cola soda, lemon juice and vanilla extract to create a potently sweet drink that can hold its own as a dessert. Combine whiskey, lemon juice, orange juice and sugar to make a classic whiskey sour that refreshes your mouth after a spicy dish.

Terrific Tequila

Tequila can have a mild or rich flavor, but it typically adds a whisper of spice to any lemon drink. Mix orange juice, tequila, lemon juice and grenadine syrup for a zesty and sweet end to a Mexican dinner. Blend tequila, pineapple juice, lemon zest and ice in a blender for a tangy tropical margarita that pairs well with the lingering flavor of a seafood-focused meal. Combine tequila, lemonade, cherry juice and raspberry liqueur for a berry cocktail that pairs particularly well with berry pies and cakes.

Regal Rum

Rum is made from sugarcane, which makes it a naturally sweet way to balance out the sourness of lemon juice. Stir spiced rum, lemon juice, apple cider and sugar syrup together to make a fall-inspired beverage that finishes off a pork supper nicely. Combine rum, lime juice, lemon juice and orange juice for a potent citrus daiquiri that helps calm the fire after a spicy meal. Mix rum, mint, lemon juice, sugar and soda water for a lemony mojito that blends well with the echo of any chicken dish.

Nifty Nonalcoholic

You don’t have to drink alcohol to have a refreshing after-dinner drink with lemon. Blend strawberry juice, lemon juice, lime juice and ice in a blender to create a virgin daiquiri that works as a beverage and a dessert. Combine watermelon juice, lemon juice, citrus soda and crushed mint leaves for a fancy cocktail that ends a seafood dinner on a sweet note. Sprinkle lemon juice and grapefruit juice into sugar water for a rejuvenating twist that blends well with the remaining flavor of any meal.
