by Jane Rodda

If your little one seems like a bouncy ball hitting all the wrong spots after it has been tossed across the room, it’s time to get out of the house. The good news is that there are many fun things to do in and around Huntington, West Virginia. This area offers a lot of opportunities for you to have some fun with your toddler and at the same time get all that energy out. Well, most of it anyway.

If an amusement park is what you are looking for, Camden Park (camdenpark.com) is your answer. With rides of all shapes and sizes, your little one will have her share of fun. Kiddie Land is a special section with nine rides for guests 48 inches and under. Highlands Museum and Discovery Center

Just minutes away in Ashland, Kentucky, the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center (highlandsmuseum.com) is a fantastic place for your young one to discover and explore all sorts of treasures. Find exhibits with little ones in mind, including an Aqua Zone that has a 210-gallon fish tank with native fish from the Ohio River. Your future marine biologist can also take part in making color patterns, games and water table activities. The museum hosts a variety of events including holiday ornament making and a gingerbread house making contest.

Waves of Fun

Take a short drive to Hurricane, West Virginia you and your little guy can splash and play at a fully equipped water park. Waves of Fun (putnamcountyparks.net/wavepool.php) features wading pools, a sandy beach, mini-golf, and a wave pool for your toddler's enjoyment. There are also water slides that older children can enjoy. The fact that kids under 4 are free makes this an inexpensive way to cool off in the summer months.
