Flirty Ways to Start a Conversation With a Guy Crush

by Wannikki Taylor

You secretly have a crush on a guy you have been seeing around, but you have no idea how to start a conversation with him. Subtle flirting can capture his attention and get him talking so that you can learn more about his personality and interests. Several flirtatious suggestions can help you spark a conversation with your crush.

Compliment Him

Shower your crush with a few sincere compliments as a way to get his attention and to get him talking. Compliments create positive energy and help connect people to each other, explains a PsychologyToday.com article, “The Art of the Compliment,” by Hara Estroff Marano. Find something specific you genuinely adore about your crush and express it to him. Perhaps you can tell him how you love his smile or dark-brown eyes. Maybe you can compliment him on his sense of style; let him know that you think his tie or shirt suits him perfectly.

Ask for His Help

If your crush happens to be in a college or workplace setting, use this as a reason to get some one-on-one time with him. Ask him to help you study. For instance, you could say, “Would you want to study together for the next exam?” Or, maybe he is the top salesman in your work office. Ask him to show you a few pointers that might help you improve your sales strategies. After he has helped you, talk about non-related school or work topics to get to know him a little better.

Talk About Shared Interests

If your eyes have been on your crush for quite some time, you are probably aware of his hobbies and interests; you may even share a few with him. Perhaps you often spot him wearing a certain sports team hat or jacket. If the team is also a favorite of yours, strike up a conversation about a recent game. For example, you can say something like, “You obviously have good taste in sports. What did you think of last night’s game?” If you notice that your crush likes to read like you do and he always has a book in hand, say something simple like, “Tell me about the book you're reading. Is it any good?"

Get His Perspective

Let your crush know that his opinion is important to you and get his point of view about something. Asking a guy for his opinion makes him feel like he is knowledgeable, explains a CollegeCandy.com article, “10 Foolproof Conversation Starters,” by Ellen Scott. Select a topic that is not too controversial to avoid a debate with your crush. Asking him what he thinks about pop culture is a safe choice; maybe you can ask his opinion about a newly released music video or movie. Or, tell him you admire his clothing style and ask him what he thinks would be a ideal gift for your brother or father.
