Animal Adventures

If your kids love nature and animals, take the family horseback-riding or try your luck at fishing in Chatham. TJ Stables is a 50-acre farm that is open year-round. The farm offers activities that include horseback riding, pony rides and a petting farm. Rent a boat, hire a charter service or go fishing off a pier at Lake St. Clair or Lake Erie. Fish for a variety of species such as walleye, rainbow trout, bass, muskie and perch.

Live Music

Support local musicians in Chatham by attending family-friendly events with live music. Concerts on the Commons events take place at Downtown Chatham Centre on Fridays during the summer. The events are free and all you need is a blanket or chairs to enjoy the show. Bring your own food and drinks and make the event a fun family picnic. The Chatham Concert Band plays at events throughout Chatham and the surrounding area. Upcoming events, such as kids’ concerts, are listed on the band’s website. Hot dogs and soda are served at select events.

Theater

Take your kids to see a play, musical or live performance. The St. Clair College Capitol Theatre offers kid-friendly performances throughout the year. Find a particular show that interests your family members, such as Concerts 4 Kids, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Dora the Explorer Live or Max and Ruby in the Nutcracker Suite. Chatham-Kent is also home to a movie theater to see new releases. Reduced ticket prices are available for children ages 3 to 13.

Parks

Visit one of Chatham’s parks with your family. Plan a picnic at Thames Campus Park. Picnic tables, shelters and restrooms are available to make your day at the park an enjoyable experience. Thames Campus Park offers a rock climbing wall and a playground equipped with monkey bars, swings, a slide and climbers. Kingston Park also provides family-friendly amenities. A splash pad is open from Victoria Day to mid-September for kids to cool down on hot summer days. Picnic shelters are available by reservation. In winter, bring your own sled for an adventurous ride down the park’s hill.
