The Certified Information Systems Auditor, or CISA, certification is frequently ranked in independent studies as one of the most desirable and highest paying IT or IS certifications available. A number of employers now require that their applicants have a CISA certification as a condition of their employment. The Information Systems Audit and Control Association, the certifying agency behind CISA, can confirm a CISA certification for employers or recruiters.

Obtain applicant’s last name and CISA certification number. ISACA requires both to verify membership. Your applicant will have received their CISA certification number when they passed the exam.

Go to https://www.isaca.org/Pages/default.aspx, the home page for ISACA, the official CISA certification association. In the right-hand sidebar you’ll see “Verify a Certification.”

Choose “CISA” from the drop down menu under “Verify a Certification” and enter the applicant’s name and certification number. Press “Submit.”

Tip

ISACA offers similarly named certifications such as Certified Information Security Manager. Make sure you are checking for the correct certification.

Warning

Applicants who have completed the CISA exam and application process will not appear on the official rolls until their application is approved.

To be CISA certified, an applicant must pass the exam and have two years of experience. Passing the CISA exam is not the same as being CISA certified.
