How to Dress With 6-Inch Wedge Boots

Heeled boots can add sexy height to your frame, but they aren't always the easiest shoes to walk in. Bold 6-inch wedge boots are every bit as sexy as heeled styles are, and they don't leave you teetering in the wind as you strive for height. Because they're such a statement shoe, though, it can be difficult to know what to wear with them. The key to working dramatic wedge boots is to pair them with clothing that helps balance your silhouette so you wind up looking long and lean, instead of bottom-heavy.

Get Skinny

Because 6-inch wedge boots have such a bold, heavy look, you must pair them with the right pants. Avoid styles with too much volume -- like wide-legged trousers or boot-cut jeans -- as they can compete with the wedge heel. Instead, opt for form-fitting pants that balance your bold footwear. Try a pair of brown, suede, 6-inch wedge boots with dark-wash skinny jeans -- slip a corduroy blazer in a camel or tan color over a white T-shirt and loop a chocolate-brown infinity scarf around your neck for a polished, casual look. Your boots can also work well with classic black leggings. Wear the leggings with a pair of black, leather wedge boots and slip a belted, V-neck, boyfriend sweater in a rich color like cranberry or forest green over a white camisole or tank. Carry a black bucket bag to hold your essentials, and you'll have an outfit that’s as stylish as it is comfortable.

Go Dressy

You can wear 6-inch wedge boots with dresses, just choose a style that doesn’t add too much volume to your lower half -- which means maxi dresses are definitely out. Instead, try a charcoal shirt dress that hits above the knee with calf-high, gray, suede wedge boots and textured gray tights -- or team a boldly printed, silk shift dress, with a geometric bib necklace, an oversized black clutch and black wedge ankle booties for a modern look. If you want to wear your wedge boots to the office, go for a slim, black sheath dress and wear it with calf-high, black wedge boots and a satchel bag in a bold color like cobalt or emerald.

Skirt The Issue

Dramatic 6-inch boots can also work well with a skirt. Choose a style that ends just above or at the knee, though, to balance the heavy look of the boots. Pair a black V-neck sweater with a denim pencil skirt and leopard-print wedge booties for stylish weekend look. Or, opt for a flirty, pale-pink swing skirt with a white T-shirt, a pearl necklace and a magenta shoulder bag to counter the bulky look of knee-high, black wedge boots. For an understated look, go with a burnt-orange, V-neck sweater, a khaki A-line skirt, brown tights and brown calf-high wedge boots for a fall or winter look. Add a gold hoop earrings and a few bangles to complete the look.

Keep It Short

You might not think of wearing your 6-inch wedge boots with shorts, but the combination can be very striking. For an evening out, pair a sequin tank with a black blazer, scalloped black shorts and black, leather wedge booties for a sexy, glamorous look. Throw on a pair of rhinestone chandelier earrings to add some more bling. During the day, opt for a more casual look with camel Bermuda shorts, a white lace blouse, and a pair of cognac, leather wedge boots. Add pearl studs and a delicate pendant necklace to help soften the look of the boots. Or go for a little more personality by wearing a white tee with black tailored shorts and leopard-print wedge booties. Layer several strands of colorful beads around your neck and carry a cherry-red envelope clutch to spice up your outfit.
