Date Ideas for a Cold Day

by Jacqueline Basdeo

When the weather turns brisk and it’s time to take your dates indoors, enliven your romance with out of the box ideas and intellectual stimulation.

Head to a Museum

If you and your paramour are inclined, a visit to the museum or an art gallery can be just the activity to snap those cold weather blues. There is plenty to see, a myriad of things to learn, and because many museums and galleries offer all-day passes to their exhibits, you can go at a leisurely pace. Additionally, because many museums are located in the heart of their respective cities, you can find plenty of top-rated restaurants to stop by and enjoy lunch. Round out your visit by browsing the museum’s gift shop and snapping a few photos, and you’ve made a lasting romantic memory.

Take in a Show

Seeing a show or a play on a cold day is a fantastic and exciting way to spend an afternoon. If tickets are scarce, go to the matinee performance. Not only can you save money, but you can also avoid the crush of the nighttime crowd. If you still can’t get tickets, consider your local theater company. This way you are supporting your local community of actors and still get to escape from the more routine activity of going to the movies. After the show, you and your partner might feel inspired, refreshed, and reconnected to your neighborhood.

Indoor Sporting Events

From hockey, to tennis, to boxing, there are numerous sporting events to enjoy during the cold weather months, and there’s nothing like a good match to get your adrenaline pumping. Loud and raucous, sporting events offer a fresh and exciting take on a cold winter’s day. If there are no sporting events in your area, pack your gear and head to an indoor sporting facility. Ice skating, mountain climbing and kickboxing are all great ways to get your blood pumping and to have fun while doing so.

Outdoor Seasonal Activities

Take your cue from the holiday season and plan your date around it. Pumpkin picking and apple picking are fun, lively, activities. The fresh air is invigorating, the activity is inexpensive, and at the end of the day you have bumper crop of fruits that are ready to eat or carve. You can also take a beautiful and scenic drive to look at the changing fall foliage, or if later in the season, a drive to look at the holiday lights. All of these outings make the changing weather your friend, not a foe.

Visit Outdoor Markets

Weather permitting, you can also visit the outdoor markets. Flea markets are fascinating because you never know what kind of unique treasures you’ll find and you can also meet a lot of interesting people. You can also do a quick search to see if there are any art gallery markets in your neighborhood or nearby town. These activities are perfect for browsing and can help provide interesting and stimulating conversation--the perfect end to a perfect date.
